MEET THE FOUNDER

Natalie Beavers

Founder & President, Angels of Epilepsy

Natalie Y. Beavers is an epilepsy survivor, advocate, and mentor whose lived experience has shaped a lifelong commitment to supporting individuals and families affected by epilepsy.

Living with epilepsy for more than three decades, Natalie has endured brain surgeries, ongoing medical challenges, and the emotional weight that often accompanies life with seizures. Through her personal journey — and through deep connection with countless survivors and families — she recognized a critical need for compassion, education, and community support within the epilepsy space.

This understanding led Natalie to found Angels of Epilepsy, a charity and advocacy organization dedicated to assisting epilepsy survivors and their families as they navigate the physical, emotional, and mental challenges of the condition.

As a national advocate, Natalie has traveled to multiple states sharing her life experience, raising awareness, and emphasizing the importance of self-advocacy, education, and mental health within the epilepsy community. Her work has been especially impactful in reaching underserved and minority communities affected by epilepsy.

In 2013, Natalie created and published The Seizure Diary, a practical and empowering resource designed to help individuals track seizures, symptoms, and patterns. The diary has been sold nationwide and in seven countries, extending her impact across the global epilepsy community.

Natalie’s advocacy has earned national recognition. Between 2017 and 2018, Natalie and Angels of Epilepsy received four awards honoring their dedication to positively impacting society through service. In 2018, Natalie was also honored with the WEGO Health Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her years of advocacy, mentorship, and leadership within the patient community.

Her work has also extended into media and public education. Natalie appeared on the nationally televised program Divorce Court, where she provided information, guidance, and empowerment to a couple navigating the challenges of epilepsy.

In 2019, Natalie and Angels of Epilepsy partnered with the Epilepsy Foundation of America, further expanding their outreach and advocacy efforts across multiple states. That same year, Natalie was invited to serve on the Epilepsy Community Advisory Board at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, contributing her voice and lived experience to initiatives aimed at improving epilepsy care and research.

Continuing her work in national advocacy, Natalie became an Ambassador with SK Life Science in 2021, supporting the organization’s “Steps Toward Zero” movement, which seeks to educate, inspire, and empower individuals in the epilepsy community to reimagine their goals with the support of their healthcare providers. She also serves as an advocate and ambassador for the epilepsy medication XCOPRI, helping bring awareness and education to those exploring treatment options.

In November 2023, Natalie was honored with the NCBON “Unsung Hero” Award in Atlanta, Georgia, recognizing her continued dedication to advocacy, mentorship, and service.

Today, Natalie remains a well-known mentor, speaker, and advocate who has made a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by epilepsy across the United States and around the world.

Her leadership is rooted in empathy, resilience, and lived understanding — ensuring that Angels of Epilepsy remains a safe, supportive, and empowering space for all who walk the epilepsy journey.
